Implant Supported Dentures

As we age and the longer that a denture is worn our jaw bone will shrink. This can be seen from a patient’s perspective as a denture that is loose, causes sore spots and no longer fits well. When a patient makes a decision to have a denture it is ideal to use 2-4 dental implants to support a denture. This allows for maintenance of the jaw bone and helps us provide a well fitting denture for the patient’s lifetime.

When dentures have been successfully worn but are now causing problems, we often recommend implants to help support the problem denture. A common approach is connection of the denture to implants using locator attachments. These connectors provide strong support and retention of the denture. With this approach there is little to no denture movement, better chewing ability and better patient comfort.
